How I use ChatGPT in my job search
If you're not using ChatGPT in your job search, you're missing out on an efficient way to tailor resumes, extract keywords and write cover letters in 10 minutes.
I use ChatGPT every single day for my work and one of my favorite ways to use it is to help job seekers. I have done everything I describe below with and without ChatGPT and let me tell you, I have saved hundreds of hours employing AI technology into my work.
Here are my 3 favorite prompts:
1. Hey ChatGPT, Give me the top 10 skills in this job description (copy and paste). Simply take a Job Description of interest into ChatGPT and ask that question. Within seconds, AI will spit back those 10 skills. If you have them, copy and paste them into your resume under Professional Skills (key phrase: if you have them) and you just pushed your resume to the top of the pile of any ATS system utilizing keywords from the Job Description.
2. Hey ChatGPT, create a Cover Letter using my resume for this job. After you have copied and pasted the job description into ChatGPT, now copy and paste your resume and ask for a Cover Letter. It won't be perfect but it will be 70% ready to go! Fine tune the details and you just got a cover letter in 10 minutes! If you really want a top tip here, ask ChatGPT for the top 3 skills in the job description and tailor your cover letter to highlight those.
3. (My favorite) Hey ChatGPT, what are 10 interview questions I should prepare for based on this job description? This is so critical because though you may not be asked these exact questions, they will likely be within the ballpark of what you will be asked so beginning to internalize them now helps you perform well later.
