Reflect on transferable skills gained in ministry like leadership, event planning, public speaking, fundraising and highlight these on resumes and in interviews. Be sure to quantify with numbers and data.
Network on LinkedIn with professionals without spamming them and never leave an interview without asking a few questions.
Don’t be afraid of temporary, freelance or part-time roles that could lead to permanent opportunities.
Look for mission-aligned nonprofit roles on sites like Idealist.org as this tends to be the easiest branch to swing to for a person’s first job post full time ministry.
Leverage areas of expertise, even niche interests, to serve and add value to a specific audience. Understanding yourself and your unique value proposition is what will separate yourself from other jobseekers.

Younger generations prefer collaborative leadership structures over authoritarian models, valuing inclusive and shared decision-making processes.
As a covo pastor, you must prioritize your mental and emotional health for with practices like therapy, spiritual direction, and hobbies being essential for balance.
We have compartmentalized faith and work but scripture integrates them, drawing parallels to biblical figures like Ezra and Nehemiah.
Five-Fold Ministry Gifts (apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists) for not just the church but the marketplace.

A pastoral leadership style that involves investing in leaders, equipping disciples, and prioritizing neighborhood flourishing over mere church attendance.
Using public spaces to address social injustices and for leadership and discipleship centered on local context and imitation of Jesus, drawing comparisons from marketplace parallels.
Moving from discipling 12 people to multiplying to 650 disciples in and around Honolulu.
Why you shouldn’t interrupt small groups with new people on a regular basis as that defeats the purpose of intimacy and connection.

The “why” behind his Covo journey and how his vision is to be freed up to be in ministry wherever God may lead, not tied to a specific church or region.
Ministering to ‘misfits’ in society, that are often looked over by the church.
How to embrace your inner freak or weirdo to reach people who are looking for authenticity.
How Covo connects with Gen Z and Gen Alpha’s sensibilities of how church and ministry should be carried.
How to not be generic and stand out on social for those who want to build revenue through social media.
Thank you to Keith, Kevin, Eun, Jon for sharing your stories and thank you for reading.
