I am selling them between now and 12/31 for half off! Only $10 + Shipping. If my work has blessed you, I’d ask you consider buying one (or three, or ten) for you or someone you love. The link to do so is HERE.
For the month of December, I will be “playing the hits” the most popular posts of 2024. Thanks for coming along on this journey with me.
Peter Drucker famously said - "The Purpose of Business is to make a Customer"
There is something that has been on my mind quite a bit lately and that is when a Pastor tries to transition into the Marketplace, but doesn't realize that the 'motive' for what makes someone choose ministry for a career and the 'motive' for what makes someone choose the marketplace for a career are radically different.
And they should be.
I never met a pastor who got into ministry to get rich, despite how media portrays us. But most people get into business, because they are motivated by the tangible - money, freedom, power, autonomy.
They want to create a customer. They want to grow market share. They want to outshine their competitors.
Pastors get into ministry because they want to help people, make a difference, change the world.
Now here's the mistake you make in a job interview. You're not thinking like they're thinking.
Let's say you're interviewing for a sales role. They ask why you want to work there and you say you want to help people.
NEXT!
But why? Because if you want to help people, work at a charity.
I know this sounds brutal, but hear me out.
You're hired for a Sales job because they want you to hunt clients and close deals.
You may think, "Well duh, that is sales"
Slow down there partner, it's all jobs.
Do you think companies hire Learning and Development Managers because they are deeply passionate about helping their staff get the tools and resources to be successful?
No! They hire L&D Managers to invest in their staff so their staff STAY (lower turnover) and ATTRACT higher quality employees to drive business.
It comes to down to money, honey.
Project Management: The smoother a project runs, the less cost to the company.
Customer Success: The more customers who renew their service, more money to the company.
Human Resources: Let's not get sued. That costs money.
There is no easy way to say this but you need to think like a Capitalist (without losing your soul).
I am not saying act like the Wolf on Wall Street - that will get shot down quick but look at it like this:
A business hires a person to solve a problem for the business.
Once you can understand how the role you're applying for solves the problem in the business, you will begin getting invites for more interviews and eventually an offer.
